Bread. Everything you wrote is true for me-- and how. *singing* killing me softly with croissants, killing me softly . . .

Like you, I am on a huge english muffin kick right now. Sourdough english muffins, to be exact. I have bought three packages in the past two weeks- I can't stop!!

My ultimate comfort food is macaroni and cheese. But I do love me some toast - although I prefer peanut butter on toast over cinnamon toast. And yum english muffins! Damn, I'm hungry now.

Popcorn. With REAL butter and salt. In my big yellow mixing bowl. All to myself. This is why I could never survive "Survivor." "No popcorn for how long?! Can you guarantee me the million if I give it up for 2 months? Because you'd have to. And I'm not sure if I've got the willpower even with that in the bag." Plus, lugging around the bowl would get to be a pain in the butt. I need it. NEED it.

I'm with the macaroni and cheese school of thought. The creamier and cheesier, the better! That and grilled cheese sandwiches! YUM!

The thing is, for a really long time, I never realized that there was more than one way to make cinnamon toast. That's the sign of a true comfort food; the way YOU do it is the ONLY way it can be done. This is my (my mom's) way: Dip a big spoon into a stick of soft butter (soft, though not room temperature melty)-- this is a transcendent feeling, for when else can you scoop butter like this?-- and plop the butter into the bowl. Dump cinnamon and sugar into the bowl and mix it up till you've got a swirly butter mix. Taste often to make sure you've got the balance right, as well as to ingest as much pure butter as possible. Meanwhile, toast the bread. Spread the soft spreadable heaven onto the toast. If you time it just right, you'll catch the exact moment when the softened, but still opaque butter mixture turns melted and clear from the heat of the toast; you'll catch that moment in your mouth, so that you can feel the texture of the butter when you bite down, but have it melt, and turn so much more flavorful, once in your mouth. Although, I can also see the value of sprinkling the sugar on top to get the sugar crystal crunch..... Oh shit, I know what's for dinner tonight.

i just have to second the cinnamon-sugar-mixing thing. there simply is no other way. NONE. it is the only way to get the perfect combination of both cinnamon and sugar in just the right amounts.

Another popcorn person here - love to eat huge bowls of it for dinner on Sunday nights. Also any kind of breakfast food - waffles, pancakes, eggs. And fried rice!

Oh, I haven't had cinnamon toast in YEARS. And now I want some. My mom would keep a shaker of pre-mixed cinnamon and sugar on the counter, specifically for this purpose.

if -only- i could get some english muffins here. i'm in the grilled cheese camp -- and none of that fancy-ass cheese either. i like my grilled cheese with down and dirty kraft deli select american slices. the big fat kind. i'm not ashamed to admit it either. macaroni and cheese come in at a close second. (there's something about fatty, gooey cheese melted all over some form of carbohydrate that just spells comfort, huh?)

All around the country and coast to coast... People always say: what do you like most? I don't wanna brag, I don't wanna boast... I always tell them: I like toast. YEAH TOAST! I get up in the mornin' bout 6 am... I have a little jelly, have a little jam... take a piece of bread, put it in the slot... Push down the lever, and the wires get hot... I get toast. YEAH TOAST! Now there's no secret to toasting perfection... There's a dial on the side and you make your selection... push to the dark or the light and then... if it pops too soon press down again... Make toast. YEAH TOAST! and that's all I remember... but..... YEAH TOAST!!! (my fave? Stuffing... but cinnamon toast brings back good memories for mee too!)

3 syllables - PO-TA-TO.. Anything potato puts me in an automatic state of satisfied bliss.. mashed potatoes, roasted red potatoes, boiled potatoes, grits, tater tots, home fries, steak fries, and the all-mighty baked potatoe - loaded with tons of shredded cheddar cheese.. Mmmm! Happiness.
