hm. that's not the italy i know. or even the milan i'm familiar with. but then again, i've not had the pleasure (excruciating torment?) of eating at cavalli caf. sounds scary. but yes, i agree that paris is much easier to take and much more like new york. someone said yesterday -- and i agree -- that florence is sad because it's basically just a museum of a city. everything just feels old and preserved. rome can feel like that too (did you see the new yorker article about meier's building in central rome? prevailing civic admin attitudes are not dissimilar in florence, i think.) so next time you absolutely should rent a little apartment for a week or something. but not in tuscany -- haven't you heard? according to the nytimes, the marche is the new tuscany. (which makes me want to vomit.) the white fluffy stuff comes from poplar trees and is the bane of my existence all spring long. there are some days where i have to walk through town with my hand over my nose so i don't inhale any.

Wow -- sounds crazy! That sucks about the allergies. And I am just like you when it comes to sightseeing -- I want to find a neighborhood and hang out. Don't feel bad about missing anything. Also, 1- Who else has big feet? Models. and 2- The concierge wouldn't have made reservations at those restaurants for you if he didn't think you were cool and chic enough to handle it.

oh baby-- come home! why do you think our ancestors fled from Europe, hmm? It was surely due to the overpopulation of les trop belles, non? Thank you again for sharing all the details of your gorgeous holiday-- it was like I was right there! I even had a sympathetic swollen belly! Howz that for empathy?
